Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Perrigo Dental Care blog!

A lot of what we talk about around here has to do with prevention. But even if you are staying on track with your home hygiene habits, watching what you put into your body, and visiting our Hoover, Alabama dentist’s office twice a year, sometimes little things can still go awry.

The important thing is to come around often enough so that we can detect problems early enough to treat them with conservative measures.

This is especially true when it comes to cavities.

Before it comes to the point where you would require a root canal or extraction to restore the health of your mouth, we can set you up with a simple dental filling procedure.

This is where we go in and dig out the decay and fill in the remaining hole with some other substance. Over the years, conventional silver fillings were typically used for this job, but they were not without problems.

Fortunately, here at Perrigo Dental Care, we have adapted the way we approach restorative dentistry to keep up with the best practices for the modern era.

As such, we now utilize mercury-free, tooth-colored dental fillings to treat cavities.

No Metal!

The silver amalgam that is used to make conventional fillings is actually a paste comprised of mercury along with other metals. That is not good if you have metal allergies or don’t want the rest of the world to know about your dental issues.

In any event, you won’t have to worry about such things since our fillings are now made of composite resin, glass ionomer or ceramic, which means that they are tooth-colored, biocompatible materials that contain no mercury or other metals.

Here’s The Deal

There’s really nothing to it. The procedure itself is more or less the same as it ever was. For your filling treatment, we will first isolate the tooth (or teeth) in question while protecting the rest of your mouth with a rubber dam. Then, we will clean the tooth, eliminate any signs of decay, and re-shape it.

Composite resin is then mixed to match your teeth and is applied to the affected tooth layer by layer.

By the time we are finished with you, your mouth will be clean, and your smile will look normal again. Doesn’t that sound good?

Let’s Do This!

In the event that you have one or more cavities, or have been away from the dentist for longer than usual, don’t put off your restorative dentistry treatment any longer.

At Perrigo Dental Care we make it easy for you to get back in good standing. If you are apprehensive about coming in, we can set you up with one of our sedation dentistry solutions designed to put your fears to rest.

The bonus is that no one will ever know you’ve even had a cavity because our tooth-colored fillings will look completely natural!
