DENTAL EMERGENCIES AND YOU
Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Perrigo Dental Care blog!
As your trusted source for comprehensive dentistry solutions in Hoover, Alabama, we can tell you that accidents happen when they are least expected!
If you ever find yourself in the midst of a dental emergency, it will be important to stay calm and figure out the best plan of action.
You may even want to get yourself to an urgent treatment center, if that is what the circumstances seem to all for. That said, if it seems to be purely a dental emergency that you are confronted with, you can rest assured that we’ve got you covered.
When you get here, we will give you a prompt doctor’s evaluation along with immediate treatment. But what you do before then matters a lot.
That’s why today we want to cover some standard dental emergencies and what you can do to ensure the happiest ending for yourself.
Toothache
This is a big deal, so don’t ignore it. There’s a reason that the pain is persistent. The pain is trying to alert you that something is wrong!
You’ll want to rinse with lukewarm water and floss to remove any food that may be in the teeth. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever to diminish the pain.
Then call our office ASAP!
Knocked Out Tooth
No matter how it happens, this will be a bloody and traumatic situation. Still, it is in your best interest to not freak out.
Put the tooth back in place and bite gently with a piece of gauze. You can also put the tooth in a small container and cover it with whole milk or saliva. Get here as quickly as possible so that we can assess the damage and find a solution fast!
Loose Crown
Besides the embarrassment it can cause, a loose crown can be disconcerting and even painful. Get dental cement or denture adhesive and put it in the inside of the crown. Put the crown back over your tooth and come to the office immediately. We’ll get you back in action ASAP!
Dental Abscess
Please call our office immediately if you have a dental abscess, as it may lead to infection.
You won’t want to make the situation worse by putting off treatment.
Before you head this way, you will want to rinse with a saltwater solution of half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water.
Chipped Or Broken Tooth
If you have a chipped or broken tooth, rinse with lukewarm water and apply a cold compress outside the mouth. Be careful to save all your tooth’s pieces in milk or saliva.
Missing Fillings
This can cause quite a bit of discomfort. But you can coat your tooth with dental cement or sugar-free gum and get head towards our office stat!
