SEDATION DENTISTRY CASTS OFF FEAR
Hello and welcome to another September edition of the Perrigo Dental Care blog!
If it has been a while since you have darkened the doors of a dentist’s office in Hoover, Alabama, we’d love to help you get back on track fast.
We are sure that you have your reasons.
Still, Dr. Perrigo and the rest of our team are equipped to handle even the toughest cases of dental anxiety (fear of the dentist) with a kind and gentle approach.
Remember, it is in your best interest to have a dentist in your life that you can trust to keep up with the ever-evolving situation in your mouth, so that you can avoid undue pain and expense along the way.
After all, even simple cavities can escalate to the point where a root canal or extraction is required rather than a basic filling.
We’d rather see you take the easy way to a healthy smile!

Putting Your Fears To Rest!
All too often dental anxiety takes hold of patients when they encounter a rude or gruff oral health care professional, or are subjected to pain during a procedure. If you can relate, the thing to keep in mind is that we are here to help you let go of the past and create better experiences (and memories) of the dentist’s office moving forward.
How do we accomplish that?
We will treat you like family, for one thing. And we will also provide you with a comfortable, disarming atmosphere.
Sedation for the anxious dental patient is another thing we are proud to make available. We actually provide a couple of services including nitrous oxide.
The way we explain “laughing gas” to patients is that it’s like having anywhere from 2 to 10 glasses of wine, depending on what you need. It kind of takes the edge off. And it allows folks to not worry so much about things that might otherwise concern them.
If you are receiving the gas at Perrigo Dental Care, when you’re done with the procedure it’s like, “wow, time really flies in your office, I didn’t realize I was in your chair for two hours.” To be sure, it provides a better experience for the patient, and that’s what we are going for.
The other thing is, we’ll prescribe an oral sedative that someone can take ahead of time, if that suits them better.
Oral sedation is just a pill that they can take prior to the appointment. It basically calms them down. For lack of a better term, it’s a nerve pill. The pill takes all the anxiety away, and allows patients that are putting off that treatment for fear of the dentist to come in and get all their work done and really not remember any of it.
