What To Do In A Dental Emergency
Welcome to another February edition of the Perrigo Dental Care oral health blog. Whatever your needs may be, if you live in the Hoover, Alabama area, we’ve got you covered. That includes when accidents happen or tragedy strikes.
These days, life comes at you fast. Would you know what to do if you were…
…involved in a car crash?
…the victim of violence?
…to fall unexpectedly?
…part of a workplace accident?
Obviously, you would want to stay calm and address your overall situation. You may want to get yourself to an urgent treatment center, if that is what the circumstances seem to necessitate. However, if it seems to be purely a dental emergency that you are confronted with, you’ll know who to call: us!
You can rest assured that if you should ever have to rush into our office for emergency care, you will get a prompt doctor’s evaluation and an immediate action plan to to suit your pressing needs. You can also trust that we will do everything in our power to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible under the circumstances. In times like these, the last thing you need is added stress!
It will also be reassuring if you already know what to do, generally speaking, when disaster darkens your day.
Today we want to review some standard dental emergencies and how to handle them with dignity and assurance.
Nagging Toothache
There’s a reason that the pain is persistent. Such pain is trying to alert you that something is wrong! You’ll want to rinse with lukewarm water and floss to remove any food that may be in the teeth. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever to diminish the pain. Then call our office ASAP!
Dislodged Tooth
This will be a bloody and traumatic situation. Still, it is in your best interest to remain calm! Put the tooth back in place and bite gently with a piece of gauze. You can also put the tooth in a small container and cover it with whole milk or saliva. Get here as quickly as possible so that we can assess the damage and find a solution fast!
Wiggly Crown
Besides the embarrassment it can cause, a loose crown can be disconcerting and even painful. Get dental cement or denture adhesive and put it in the inside of the crown. Put the crown back over your tooth and come to the office immediately. We’ll get you back on track fast!
Dental Abscess
Please call our office straightaway if you have a dental abscess, as it may lead to infection. You won’t want to make the situation worse by putting off treatment.
Before you head this way, you will want to rinse with a saltwater solution of half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of water. Everything will be OK in the end.
Chipped Or Broken Tooth
We’ll be able to help, for sure, when you get here. If you have a chipped or broken tooth, rinse with lukewarm water and apply a cold compress outside the mouth. Be careful to save all your tooth’s pieces in milk or saliva.
Missing Fillings
This can cause quite a bit of discomfort. But you can coat your tooth with dental cement or sugar-free gum and get head towards our office stat!
